Kim, I'm sorry but I have to say it. Every time I see your avatar I think your lil' girl is holding a sausage. But then I'm like, no no it is part of her toy.

Well, I wish I had exciting news to share, but there is really nothing happening so far with my body. I guess it's still a little early, but I figured I would at least have a few BH contractions here and there, or something like that!

I had an appt. with my midwife this past Tuesday and she said everything looked great. She thinks I will probably go overdue again (dd was 2 weeks overdue). My next appt. is on the 14th, but I'm hoping the baby will be here by then

Went to OB today....

Because of the polyhydramnios... (too much fluid)

If I don't get labor started on my own this week, I am going in for "cervical ripening" a week from today (as far as I know that means induction)....

So.... I praying that the full moon and gravity will be enough this week.... (Praying for Wednesday ).

The good news is that she has dropped and is not sitting under my ribcage, so something's moving...

If anything happens.... my daughter will post the details for me here....

Do you know which product they use for this? (for the "ripening")

not entirely.... I am thinking pitocin... but I would really rather get the body working naturally if I can...

I will find out.

Hmm, sorry, I must have used the wrong word - I meant the gel (or whatever it is) they use first. The ladies here say that Cervadil is fine, but Cytotec definitely is not.

Probably not you... I was only induced once, and was already dilating.....

Why is one bad and the other good? How do these "ripeners" work? (what am I - a banana? )

If you go to the Pregnancy Support thread and ask, I am *sure* there will be ladies there who can tell you. (I just remembered that the BabyWatch thread isn't for pregnancy matters - my fault, sorry!) People feel quite strongly about it so I think it would be really good for you to ask.

Here, finally, is Lydia's birth story. Sorry so long! You don't have to read it all.

Lydia Kate Wetzel’s Birth Story

Monday September 22- I worked on the floor that day. I was very uncomfortable, but not really have any contractions.
Monday night: Attempted to get things moving! After that I slept for about 1 ½ hours before waking up with cramping, back pain, and what I thought were contractions. I wasn’t sure because they were pretty much constant and I couldn’t actually time anything, so I didn’t really know what was going on. I just kept walking up and down the hallway as that seemed to help. Dh was sound asleep and I didn’t feel the need to wake him up. Finally at 3:00 a.m. I went to sleep and woke up at 4:30…with absolutely no pain at all. I called work to let them know I had a pretty rough night but was doing fine now. I wasn’t sure if it would be better for me to come in knowing I might have to leave, or just call in for the day. They told me to come in, they had someone that could cover for me if I did have to go home.

Tuesday September 23- I had no pain AT ALL the whole day at work. I was tired from only 3 hours of sleep and probably crabby that nothing was happening after the rough night. After work I went to the doctor’s office for my NST and everything was fine, heartbeat was still irregular. Tuesday evening I went on some business errands with dh and went to bed at 9:30 p.m. because I was so tired from the night before. During the night I woke up twice to go the bathroom but otherwise slept like a rock!

Wednesday September 24- I woke up at 5:30 a.m. after getting great sleep. I laid in bed until about 6:30 a.m. when I got up, ate some cereal. I showered and got ready for work and just had some on and off cramping.
7:30 a.m.- I left for work. I felt a pretty good cramp/contraction as I left and thought I was just dehydrated so I grabbed some juice to take with me
7:45 a.m.- I had a contraction so bad I had to pull over the car. I called my friend Mel who I was supposed to be meeting with that day and told her I wasn’t coming in as I didn’t feel safe to drive. I apologized in case I didn’t have the baby for another week but told her I really shouldn’t be driving myself anywhere. So I turned around and went home.
8:00 a.m.- Got home and started timing contractions. They were weird, I don’t even know how to describe them. Not like any of the descriptions I’ve seen, but I just know it HURT. They were between 7-12 minutes apart. I was very uncomfortable but decided to finish packing our hospital bags to give me something to do. I was walking the floor, going to the bathroom frequently, had lots of pressure, rocked in the rocking chair, was on my hands and knees on the floor- just trying to find SOME measure of relief. My SIL (who is living with us) was pretty interested in what was happening and I couldn’t handle it so I finally sequestered myself in my bedroom!
9:00 a.m.- I finally called my husband to come home from work. He was only 10 minutes away and in my discomfort I thought to myself “Why am I going through this by myself? He should be here!” He asked if we needed to go to the hospital and I said not yet, but I just needed him home. At this point my contractions were 5-7 minutes apart. I apologized for making him come home if this wasn’t it.
9:45 a.m.- Dh wasn’t home yet, as he had to pack up and clean up all of his tools. I went to the bathroom and had bright red bleeding. I was SO relieved! My contractions weren’t close enough to go in, but I know you’re supposed to go in with bleeding. I was very ready to go in at this point so I was glad to have the bleeding! I called dh to let him know we did need to go in now. He said he was almost home.
10:00- Dh got home, showered, and we left for the hospital. Contractions were 3 ½ to 4 minutes apart in the car. Dh offered to stop at Walmart for new camera batteries on the way. Funny.
10:30- Got to the OB triage room. Contractions were strong on the monitor. The nurse checked me and she seemed pretty surprise that I was already 6 cm. In the middle of my discomfort, I was thrilled.
11:00- The nurse came back from calling the doctor and told me I would be admitted. She asked me if I had thought about pain control. I told her that I had thought about it and was very open to anything, but my two hours at home made me decide I wanted an epidural! I realized while at home that there really wasn’t any good reason for me to go through another who knows how many hours like that. As I’ve said before, for me, labor and delivery was all about getting it over with!
11:30- I was settled in my room, the nurse got my IV started. She left for something and I started throwing up. My mind immediately went back to my OB class in nursing school where they talked about how many women throw up in transition. And then I though “My gosh I must be farther than I thought-this is going fast!”
12:00- Epidural was in. I had NO contractions the entire time he was putting it in, which was so nice. After it was in, I started have really bad low back pain. They turned me on my side in case the baby was posterior. The nurse told me the doctor would be to check me and break my water if needed on her lunch. The nurse decided to check me and I was 8-9 cm and she accidentally broke my water while checking me. The back pain kept getting worse and worse, and the alarm on the epidural pump was beeping.
12:30- My doctor came in and checked me. She said she was going to change and would be back. Nurse anesthetist came back- the epidural tubing was pinched off in the pump…hence the beeping and continued bad pain! He gave me a bolus of pain meds and restarted the epidural.
1:10- I was at 10 cm.
1:20- My doctor came back and said “Let’s have a baby!” I started pushing and was very relieved. It felt so good to push and the back pain was starting to get better, but I was having very bad abdominal pain when I wasn’t pushing. It felt like fire and ripping across my low abdomen/pelvis. I just wanted to push to avoid the pain! They told me the baby’s head was very low and he/she had a lot of hair!
2:20- Still pushing away! The nurse suggested cathing me and they got almost a half a liter. After that my abdominal pain did get better.
2:30- I decided in my head I was done! I knew I wasn’t, but I was so exhausted. I wanted to say “Just tell me I will be done by 3:00!” I couldn’t feel or see progress and I felt like I was going to be pushing forever.
2:58- Miss Lydia was born! Once her head was out I felt so much relief I wanted to push the rest of her out before they even had her suctioned! Immediately they put her up on me for about 30 minutes. I had a lot more relief when the placenta was delivered. They did have to give me a shot of Methergan and almost Pitocin because I was bleeding. I had a third degree tear thanks to Lydia coming out with her fist up by her face! And that’s probably how she got stuck in my pelvis which caused such bad abdominal pain and made me push for so long! After we bonded for about 30 minutes they asked if I wanted them to weigh her or breastfeed or what. I told them to weigh her and let my husband hold her for awhile. Then they gave her back to me and she ate right away! They told me to call when I was ready for them to do her bath and get me washed up. Since we had family coming to visit, I told them to do it right away. They started her bath (in the room with Daddy doing most of it) and then had an emergency on the floor. We were on our own for about 2 hours and it was GREAT! The staff felt horrible, especially since I work there, but it really was nice. We were both fine, we got to bond and make our phone calls. And we did manage to get cleaned up before family came.

Overall the hospital experience was great. The nurses came in once a shift unless I called for something. They never did anything without asking first and honestly I hardly felt like I was in the hospital. Almost everything was done in our room and they were all so respectful of our privacy. The delivery was super calm- just me, dh, the doctor, and the nurse. No craziness, just calm and peaceful.

Purejoy --

My goodness, girl, that is a story! You're working, driving into work, pulling over -- stopping at WalMart!

It really does sound peaceful for all of you, and how wonderful you had the baby to yourselves for so long while they helped someone else.

Lydia Kate sounds like a little dream and what a very beautiful name! Lydia was on our list for a girl's name -- we didn't think Adam would like it for his name, though

Thank you for sharing your story. I read ALL of it (I'm sure many others will, too). It is always so amazing how babies get here, isn't it?

How are you and Lydia doing now?

Congratulations, again, on your little pink bundle of joy!
