I think thats a debate that could go on and on.. Some will say yes.. Some will say no.. The world has always been unstable.. And now we have the 24 hour news coverage.. But I myself and many more do feel a tug in the spirit. It would be foolish to look at the future and think that things will get better over time.. I think we've passed the line in history.. I believe that the middle east is at a boiling point.. All the things happening with the world economy.. And the thing is.. Nobody knows what to do anymore.. The only solutions these days are just temporary fixes. Band aids.. The worlds system as we have known is coming to a close.. The generic phrase that gets thrown around "nothing lasts forever" well my friends thats true.. Major empires through history have fallen... Nothing stays the same.. I think most people just want things to be "normal" they don't want their world shaken by anything.. Thats normal for all of us... but that day is coming when normal will be no more.. The scary thing.. We have people in power in this country, and in countries through out the world who are just waiting to pounce on changing the worlds system.. The system we've known our entire lives.. They welcome it. I think the world changed on 9/11/2001... For the most things haven't been the same.. I dont know if that was the major thing to set things in action.. Although it seems like it.. I think the next thing that will change all our lives and make the world a different place will be when the first move is made in the middle east.. And that talk has been going on for well over 3 years now.. And just when you think it's going to happen.. It doesn't.. but I believe it will..

Shalom, TruthisComing. quote:
ORIGINAL: TruthisComing Have the last ten years been the time of birth pangs Jesus talked about? why or why not? I'm with chrisb743 on this one. I haven't voted; I'm not sure I can. Sure, the world seems to be getting worse and worse, but is that what is meant by the "birthpangs" or "labor pains" or "sorrows"? No. Those labor pains began (and ended) LONG, LONG AGO! This question comes from Matt. 24:8 and Mark 13:8: Matt 24:4-10 4 And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man deceive you. 5 For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many. 6 And ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet. 7 For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places. 8 All these are the beginning of sorrows. 9 Then shall they deliver you up to be afflicted, and shall kill you: and ye shall be hated of all nations for my name's sake. 10 And then shall many be offended, and shall betray one another, and shall hate one another. KJV Mark 13:5-9 5 And Jesus answering them began to say, Take heed lest any man deceive you: 6 For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many. 7 And when ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars, be ye not troubled: for such things must needs be; but the end shall not be yet. 8 For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be earthquakes in divers places, and there shall be famines and troubles: these are the beginnings of sorrows. 9 But take heed to yourselves: for they shall deliver you up to councils; and in the synagogues ye shall be beaten: and ye shall be brought before rulers and kings for my sake, for a testimony against them. KJV What I can't emphasize enough is that this began back in Yeshua`s disciples' day! That is clear, especially when looking at factors about Yerushalayim (Jerusalem) being under attack by Rome! So, these "sorrows" or "birth pangs" or "labor pains" (Greek: "oodinoon" = genitive plural of "oodin") were in the 30s to the 60s A.D. NT:5604 oodin (o-deen'); akin to NT:3601; a pang or throe, especially of childbirth: KJV - pain, sorrow, travail. Simple answer, everything that occurs from Christ's ascension to His return is a birth pain. Second question, if I am truly walking in faith in Jesus- does it matter? Should I not be prepared regardless of the day or hour we are in? Do I continue to long for the day to come? The first coming of Christ, many were unprepared and unaware. Many by their own sinful hearts were deceived. Many just trusted what they heard and saw in front of them. Many doubted in their belief. Many had no idea what they were getting into. Some, were ready and aware the Messiah was coming(not many). The same is going to happen with Christ's second return. Rb

The birth pain are increasing. There are more frequent earthquakes and the magnitudes are increasing. "Braxton - Hicks contractions. They start mild and are less frequent, then the frequency shortens and the magnitude increases until forced labor occurs. Famines are still occurring. Volcanic eruptions are now more frequent. Yes these are the signs to the coming of the last days. In Christ Montana Marv

I'm amazed that no one has started a thread or made a comment concerning the recent events with Israel and Turkish ship and where do they think this could end up.. "if anywhere" or in two to three weeks will that just be passing news.. And I just read where the envoy to North Korea stated that the situation there is "grave" and war could be eminent.. Again.. In a couple of weeks could that too just be old news? Does anybody here feel as if something has to boil over somewhere soon here on good old planet earth?

I believe such talk (the OP) is incredibly self-indulgent given the fact that we've been through far worse "pangs" in the last 100 years than we are experiencing today. Seriously, has everyone forgotten the five year period when the majority of the whole planet was at war with each other? Not to mention the First World War when millions were slaughtered in conditions that we cannot hardly imagine today. Or perhaps people have forgotten the time when every child in America had "duck and cover" drills with the imminent threat of a nuclear holocaust just around the corner -- as close as JFK rejecting calls from his generals to nuke Cuba during the Missile Crisis.

Yes these are the signs to the coming of the last days. Marv, that just isn't true. There is no evidence to suggest that earthquakes are getting more frequent or that they are getting stronger. In fact, the evidence is all to the contrary. While there are always going the be fluctuations in the numbers per year, overall, there earthquakes are no strong or more frequent that they were 100 years, when accurate records began. If other people are telling you otherwise, they are deceiving you. You may be hearing more reports of earthquake damage and casualties, which is easily explained by two factors. 1. The world is far more populated today than it was 50 or 100 years ago, especially in earthquake prone zones like the Pacific Rim. There are four times as many people alive today than there were 100 years ago, and so there are many more people in harm's way. The earthquake in Haiti was not a particularly strong one, but it happened right under a city filled with very poor people and no building codes, that's why so many people died. They had an even bigger earthquake there 200 years ago, but only a few people died because there wasn't a big city there at the time, and no stone buildings to collapse on people. 2. The internet and the 24-hour news cycle. 20 years ago, if an big earthquake happened in China, you got maybe a 2 minute report on the nightly news. Many Americans probably didn't even know it happened. These days you get instant wall-to-wall coverage that goes on for days, so people can't help but know about it. So, the number and size of earthquakes has remained the same, it's just that more people are affected by them, because of the population boom, and you get to hear a lot more about them these days. The same goes for volcanoes. The three volcanoes that had major eruptions in the past few weeks are all active volcanoes that have been erupting for centuries on and off. There is no connection between them, and there isn't the slightest indication that volcanic activity is increasing at all. And again, given that volcanic areas are rich in fertile soil, large populations have grown up around many of them. The last time Mt. Rainier, near Seattle, erupted was in 1854, when there was almost nobody there in harm's way. One day, it will erupt again, and next time the lives of over 3 million people could be severely impacted. So again, there simply is no evidence to show that volcanic activity is on the increase. Indeed, there have been far more cataclysmic eruptions happening throughout history. Next time the Yellowstone Caldera erupts, it will likely make half the USA uninhabitable for decades, yet ther is no sign that that is going to happen any time soon.

tacitus What you have said is not necessarily true. If you look at the records, from 2003 to 2007 there were 10 quakes with a magnitude of 8.0 to 9.9; 4 being in 2007. No other 5 year period had more than 6 of this magnitude. Even though the number of quakes many appear to be static, The magnitudes of some of the quakes has increased. There have been three major spikes in earthquake with higher magnitudes. The early to mid 1950's; the early to mid 1960's and 2004 to 2010. These cycles are what to look at. There are down years, and there are up years. There are records of many earthquake prior to 1900, but strength of quakes then were not as accurate in recordings, fewer locations that recorded seismic activity. The highest two recorded quakes were a 9.5 in Chile in 1960 and a 9.2 in Alaska in 1963. So I stand by what I have said. There is an apparent increase in the severity of earthquakes around the world. We have had 3 major quakes this year already. In Christ Montana Marv

Marv, you said it yourself. "There are down years and there are up years." This is exactly what one would expect when you're dealing with a complex natural phenomenon such as earthquakes. Here's what the USGS has to say: quote:
Are Earthquakes Really on the Increase? We continue to be asked by many people throughout the world if earthquakes are on the increase. Although it may seem that we are having more earthquakes, earthquakes of magnitude 7.0 or greater have remained fairly constant. A partial explanation may lie in the fact that in the last twenty years, we have definitely had an increase in the number of earthquakes we have been able to locate each year. This is because of the tremendous increase in the number of seismograph stations in the world and the many improvements in global communications. In 1931, there were about 350 stations operating in the world; today, there are more than 8,000 stations and the data now comes in rapidly from these stations by electronic mail, internet and satellite. This increase in the number of stations and the more timely receipt of data has allowed us and other seismological centers to locate earthquakes more rapidly and to locate many small earthquakes which were undetected in earlier years. The NEIC now locates about 20,000 earthquakes each year or approximately 50 per day. Also, because of the improvements in communications and the increased interest in the environment and natural disasters, the public now learns about more earthquakes. According to long-term records (since about 1900), we expect about 17 major earthquakes (7.0 - 7.9) and one great earthquake (8.0 or above) in any given year. [/quote] http://earthquake.usgs.gov/learn/topics/increase_in_earthquakes.php This year we have had one great earthquake (Chile) and seven major quakes, which about par for the course, and there certainly isn't a statistician in the country that will claim that there is evidence of a trend in recent years. And if you look at the chart at the top of this page: http://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/eqarchives/year/graphs.php you will see there is no discernible increase in strength either. If there was something different going on in the last few years (or even last few decades) then it would be obvious in the statistics. But there just isn't anything there other than the usual fluctuations within the same range there has always been. If the earthquake in Haiti had somewhere else in the world, in an unpopulated area, then nobody would commenting on how bad a year it's been for earthquakes this year. This is all to do with preconceptions and perceptions of what people think is going on, but it's clear that if you just studied the raw data for the earthquakes and not their impact, then you wouldn't see anything out of the ordinary at all.

Sure it is. Based on this one little verse from Matthew 24-14 And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come Unless it turns out the world is hollow or it's possible to visit parallel dimensions I would have to say that this prophecy was satisfied. And it was satisfied a number of years ago. There is a timer running somewhere and it's just about out of time.
