I watched the race on Sat. night. It was okay. Nobody I really like (Edwards, Earnhardt, Burton) did super well, but none of the people I dislike won either.

So, what's the prediction on how Danica Cheesecake will fare this season?

Drivers from other forms of racing generally find NASCAR isn't all that easy.

Can't wait for the 500! I'm a huge SHR fan - am as excited for both Tony and Ryan. Tony is my favorite, but I support them both equally. And if it comes down to the two of them racing one another for the win - then it's Tony all the way.

I think Danica will be just fine. From what I've been seeing, she appears open to learning what she needs to learn to be successful. I hope she does great and gives some of these guys a run for their money!

I got to watch the twin qualifying races today on SPEED. (Thanks to our mayor for giving us city workers a snow day.) They were both pretty good races, though I'd have liked if other drivers won.
Did anyboyd else watch?

I used to really like Darrell Waltrip as an announcer, but the last year or so he is just getting annoying. It seems he dwells on the past so much. His constant theme is how much tougher drives used to be than today's drivers. Today he overdid it with talking about his brother. Of course, most of us would want our brother to do well, but I really think he should not over do it with talking about his brother. Let's face it, Michael Waltrip isn't a top driver who merits a ton of attention. They did an in-car interview with Michael. DW said, "Just remember you are one of the greatest restricter plate drivers..." Really? Do you all think that's true? I think Michael Waltrip can be amusing (at times), but I wouldn't call him a great driver.

I watched the last part of the Pothole 500. Why not just have a good old demolition derby?

I'm not a big NASCAR guy, but I was stunned when I heard that the Daytona track was last paved in 1978. I'm thinking, this is your PREMIER track for what is NASCAR's Super Bowl...and you don't repave it for 32 years!!!

That makes absolutely NO sense.

I don't know how often tracks should be repaved, but I do know some of the drivers still don't want them to repave Daytona--even after problems last week.

The weather in FL to cause such track problems was highly unusual. I would not expect to see such issues again.

According to the drivers, repaving the track takes away all the things they know and love about the tracks. When Darlington was repaved, many complained about it for years - before it was "broken in". No repaving of Daytona! It would lose its magic.

Well, I was pretty pumped about this season, even after the debacle at Dayonta. I thought with all the changes that maybe things would be better, and I was cautiously optimistic that it wouldn't be the "all JJ, all the time" bit again. But alas, we've had ho-hum racing, the JJ show again, and Waltrip running his mouth and not finding anything else to talk about besides Jr, and JJ. If I'm gonna watch the race from now on I will make use of my "MUTE" button and listen to the radio or in-car audio. And that's IF I watch another race. I love it to pieces, but I'm just sick of the same guy winning over and over and over and over and over and over and over.

hats off to Crown Royal

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crown_Royal_Presents_the_Heath_Calhoun_400

The Crown Royal Presents the Your Name Here 400 is a NASCAR Sprint Cup stock car race held at the Richmond International Raceway in Richmond, Virginia. Since 2007, race title sponsor Crown Royal names the race after the winner of an essay contest during Daytona Speedweeks. The winner of the first essay contest was Jim Stewart from Houma, Louisiana, with subsequent contests won by Dan Lowry of Columbiana, Ohio and Russ Friedman of Huntington, N.Y.[1], with the 2010 race being named for Army veteran Heath Calhoun of Clarksville, Tennessee.

CROWN ROYAL HONORS MILITARY HERO WITH NAMING RIGHTS TO NASCAR SPRINT CUP SERIES RACE AT RICHMOND INTERNATIONAL RACEWAY

Fans Select Tennessee Native as Grand-Prize Winner – Crown Royal Presents The Heath Calhoun 400
A special patriotic ceremony today at Daytona International Speedway® revealed Heath Calhoun, a retired member of the Army who lost both of his legs in an explosion in Iraq, as the grand-prize winner of the annual Crown Royal® “Your Name Here” 400 program.

Heath Calhoun lives in Clarksville, Tenn., and was chosen from a group of five military finalists who were all nominated by their friends, family and fellow soldiers for their ability to demonstrate the core values of the military in performing a selfless act that makes them a hero. Heath’s nomination detailed his determination and ability to inspire others to live their lives to the fullest despite their injuries.

“Words cannot describe what it means to be chosen by the fans for this unbelievable experience,” said Calhoun. “Not only do I get to live out one of my dreams, but I get a chance to represent all the military that serve our country. I look forward to working with Crown Royal in all their efforts to promote responsible drinking to the millions of NASCAR fans, as well as the upcoming race at Richmond International Raceway.”

For his efforts in the military, Calhoun received a Purple Heart, as well as the George C. Lang Award for Courage. Once the finalists were selected, their stories were showcased on www.crownroyal.com , where, for the first time ever, adult fans were able to choose who they thought should receive naming rights to the May 1 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at Richmond International Raceway.

The Heath Calhoun 400 will be incorporated into all official race logos, used for thousands of pieces of merchandise and recognized by NASCAR’s broadcast and media partners as the race’s official title. In addition, Calhoun will take part in pre-race festivities at Richmond International Raceway and participate in the trophy presentation to the race winner in Gatorade Victory Lane. During the race weekend, he will receive VIP accommodations for himself and a guest.

I don't dislike Jimmy Johnson as a person, but it's boring seeing the same person win a lot. I'm pretty much in the anybody but Jimmy Johnson on Jeff Gordon camp these days.

It will be interesting to see how NASCAR handles this. Over at the NASCAR website they have a poll about what fans think they should do. The fans seem to be divided between doing nothing and parking Carl Edwards for one race.

I like Edwards, but really playing paybacks like that is dangerous and should not be tolerated. I would park him for one race. I hate it for him, and rather that it happened to Juan Pablo Montoya, but I feel it has to handled that way.

NASCAR brought this on themselves.

http://www.usatoday.com/sports/motor/2010-03-08-2732641868_x.htm

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The boys sure backed NASCAR into a corner on this one.
Determined to give drivers more leeway this season when it came to policing each other on the track, NASCAR opened the year with a relaxed "boys, have at it" attitude. It was interpreted to mean NASCAR would look the other way at a nudge here, a spin there, and all the retaliatory bumping and banging that goes on over a very long season.

First up is Edwards, who is on a long list of drivers who have been on the losing end of Keselowski's aggressive charge into NASCAR's top level. Although Denny Hamlin had the most public feud with Keselowski, there is no shortage of top-name drivers who privately pledged they'd exact their revenge this season.

Edwards' most obvious run-in with Keselowski was on the final lap of last April's race at Talladega, where Keselowski's nudge sent Edwards flying into the fence in a wreck that some may argue was more frightening than Atlanta. But the two race against each other weekly in two series, and Edwards' hinted at a far deeper history with the unapologetic Keselowski.

So when early contact between the two knocked Edwards out Sunday, at a track where he's won four times in two series, he was ready for revenge. He 100 percent deliberately wrecked Keselowski and has so far been rather unrepentant about his action.

Edwards, who was immediately parked for his actions, had little to say after a postrace meeting with NASCAR. But he minced no words in a Facebook posting late Sunday night.

"My options," he wrote, "Considering that Brad wrecks me with no regard for anyones safety or hard work, should I: A-Keep letting him wreck me? B-Confront him after the race? C-Wait til bristol and collect other cars? or D-Take care of it now?

if the driver wants to run with the big boys. man up or give his spot to the anna kournikova of racing, danica patrick

JIMMY SPENCER said "atta boy carl" on his show last night. i dunno. i have mixed feelings... mainly cause i really don't know much about brad. i wished that carl had taken on Jimmie or Kyle or Montoya though. that woulda been better! =) i woulda been all about it in that case. but so far i like the new guys Scott Speed and Legano. i just don't know much about Brad to make a judgement call.

but let's look at this... NASCAR is infamous for handing out rediculous penalties for superfluous actions (dale jr's spoiler nut bolt assembly from 2008 ring a bell?!? how about jimmy and jeffs bady mods at california in 2007?!) they brought the hammer down on that. so i immagine carl will be suspended regardless of weather it was a much needed action or a bad move.
