A Snake, Rat, Wasp, Roaches Purple Hull Peas - 6/30/2010 4:38:11 PM

Yesterday, I harrowed (plowed) up my old fashioned purple hull pea patch. Nancy, Shirley and Joe, and Aunt Mildred had done picked a pile of them thangs; I ate some, they was good! Before I did, I picked a half of a five gallon bucket of the dried ones. I was going to shell them out, and use them for seed to plant some fall peas. I finished my harrowing, got my bucket of peas, and was going to sit on my swing under my barn to shell them.
I walked to my barn, and there, by the swing, I saw the biggest, longest snake I had seen in a long time. I said to myself, "Myself, that is a B-I-G snake..I don't want him under my barn, I might be trying to take a nap on my swing and he'll curl up on my leg." So, I went to my other barn, got the 20 gauge single shot shotgun, placed a shell in it, and walked back to the spot where I had spied old B-I-G. He was gone!
About that time, I spied a big ole woods rat running around like a chicken with his head cut off...that snake was chasing him. I sat on my swing, commenced to start shelling them dried peas, heard a noise, looked up, and there was that rat running on a beam underneath the tin. I had the shotgun beside me, I lifted 'er up, and blasted that rat. Well, I don't know whether or not I hit the rat, but the board I hit had a huge wasp's nest on it, and they begin to swarm. I lit out of there! Then, I got my flamethrower, and burned the wasp nest (after I had sprayed it with Wasp spray).
I sit back on my swing, begin to shell them peas, all the time keeping out a wary eye for that snake. I suddenly noticed a bunch of huge roaches(you know, them big ones) rambling around like they was drunk. I suppose some of the wasp spray had hit them. I did manage to shell my peas (got about two pounds of seed). Never did see the snake or rat again (I did put out some rat poison). What a time!
